Dr Jayden strikes again

On his never ending quest to obtain his medical license, Jayden has again been experimenting with medications. Last week, I called poison control (again!). Jayden was pouring children's tylanol into the medicine cup and then drinking it. It sortof looked like he was taking shots. I think that he was able to take about 5-8 teaspoons before I caught him.
Yesterday, I found his prescription eyedrops in bed with him. I was very surprised considering the drama that ensued everytime we had to administer the drops. "What are you doing with these?" I asked. "I was giving myself eyedrops. It's not scary anymore!"
Today, we had our first bloody boo-boo. Pop was here to help me. I really didn't want to be brave and help Jayden since there was blood running down his face from a small gash above his eyebrow. But I didn't pass out-I know you were all concerned! he is fine and the biggest trauma is that I made him wear a bandaid. For anyone who doesn't know, Jayden has an irrational fear of bandaids.

Our life is snow fun!!!!

Jayden and I have been gearing up for the big snow storm to hit Springfield. We got a dissapointing dusting of snow. Jayden believes that PeePaw sent the snow and I decided that is a nice thought so I didn't say anything different.
The pictures are of what Jayden decide to wear to go out in the snow (athletic pants and a blazer with no shirt underneath!), Jayden outside, and Jacob watching big brother in the snow through the front window.

I am so proud

Jayden woke up from his nap a few minutes ago, used the big potty (woo hoo!) and then said to me, "Mommy, I want to watch Elvis on TV." There was an Oprah show at the beginning of the fall where Lisa Marie Presley performed a duet with her Daddy to "In the Ghettto." Jayden loves it and I couldn't be happier!

Monday, December 10, 2007

Jayden was mad at me the other night. So he told me, "You are breaking my heart. You are ripping it and scratching it." Wow, that was graphic Jayden!

PS!!!!!

JACOB SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT LAST NIGHT! I GOT 8 GLORIOUS HOURS IN A ROW!

Tis the season...

to be busy!
We have had a crazy couple of weeks here at the Tarbet house. Jayden started preschool last week. He thinks he is big stuff. I have noticed that he plays much rougher now but we will get that figured out! He even has a new Mickey Mouse backpack!
I had my first Southern Living at Home party last week and it went really well. At least I think it did! We also had a Christmas party on Sat and about 30 people came. Then Josh and I were both on worship team on Sunday and our new minister gave his "tryout" sermon and was voted on. He was approved which I think is good. It is hard to judge someone based on one sermon. More and more I am wondering how I really feel about the way our church is governed.

I took Jacob to get shots this morning. Our insurance company has a cap on the amount for well-child visits and with a newborn, we hit that very quickly. So I bundled the baby up, dropped Jayden off at Daddy's office (Josh is a hero) and headed down to the health department. It was a humbling experience. I was the only married parent there, the older mom there (other than the grandma who was filling in as mom), and the only family not receiving WIC benefits. It was good for me though. I was the older mom by 7 years and I am only 27! Jacob got 3 shots and I went ahead and got a flu shot since I was there and it was free. But I was holding a squirming baby when they gave me my shot so my arm wasn't relaxed and now it hurts!
Jayden is sitting next to me right now, watching Mickey Mouse and covering mommy and the computer with address return labels! Fun stuff!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We went to a Halloween Party last night! Jayden wants me to type "trick or treat." I think he is practicing to get lots of candy tonight!

Party-Pooper without the Party

Jayden is SO excited about Halloween and has been non-stop chatter about his costume, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating. In a recent conversation with his mommy, he was reviewing the details of his Wednesday night candy quest.

"Is Daddy taking me trick-or-treating?" he asked Juli.

"Yes, Daddy is taking you trick or treating."

"Is he dressing up? What is he going to be?"

"Nothing," Juli replied to her three-year-old. "Daddy is a party-pooper," she explained.

A sudden concerned expression crosses the face of the little man who is currently trying to get toilet trained. "Daddy is going as POOP??!" he exclaims incredulously.

The mommy can offer no reply except laughter. Jayden realized that he has probably misunderstood and his Daddy is NOT dressing up as poop for Halloween. To clarify, he says

"Oh Mommy. You're just teasing me with poop."

Jayden the Brother-Whisperer

Hello from Jennilee! Because Juli is a busy mommy, I have asked her for permission to be a "guest blogger" on her site. She and I chat everyday, so I often get to hear stories about Jacob or Jayden that just never make it to her blog. I thought that one from today was particularly cute, so, knowing that she's busy, I asked if I could just post it. Happily, she agreed!

Jacob was in his crib crying after his nap, and Jayden said to Juli "Oh, he needs me to hold him."

Juli hoisted Jayden up in the crib, he crawled in and sweetly cuddled with his baby brother.

After a moment, he reported back to Juli "I know why he's crying, Mommy."

"Why's that?"

"It's because he doesn't have any stuff in his bed with him."

Jayden then proceeded to his room to collect some miscellaneous junk, er, I mean, valuable stuffed animals so that Jacob would no longer be lonely in his crib. Perhaps this is why Jayden sleeps with approximately two dozen stuffed animals.

It is 2:15 am.

And I haven't been to sleep yet. Jacob's allergies are acting up so he isn't sleeping so I am not either. I finally left our bedroom about 30 minutes ago to try to let Josh actually sleep well. He pretty much ignores us and sleeps but I know that it can't always be the most restful sleep
I am very cranky right now.
Josh is going to take Jayden to a car show tomorrow. Maybe I will be able to sneak a little nap in
Sunday is going to be CRAZY. Josh is going to the camp to play drums with the youth band and I am going to attend our parenting class and have the two boys all day! I think that Josh will be home sometime around 10! It is not going to be fun if I am this tired.
I just ate 5 cookies to try to keep me awake-that probably isn't good. There is nothing on TV right now.
I want to go to sleep.

Picture Day

We took the boys to Sears for pictures today. Jacob was great but Jayden was a bear. But we got some good photos and my wallet is $200 lighter.
Today, I was talking to Jayden about how his Daddy is my husband and I am Daddy's wife. He didn't really understand because he was telling me that Daddy is his husband. I told him, "when you grow up, you will find a girl that you really like and want to spend everyday with so you will marry her."
"I am going to have ladies."
"You are?"
"Yes. Five ladies."
"Are you going to be a player?"
"Mickey Mouse is a player."
Ah, yes, we somehow always come back to Mickey Mouse.

We are going to have a busy day tomorrow. We are starting a parenting class tomorrow after church. I also checked out "The New Strong Willed Child" by James Dobson.

I dropped my cell phone...

in the toilet. Now it doesn't work so Josh is going to go to Sprint for me tomorrow. Maybe he can just tell them it fell in a rain puddle or something.
If you need to talk to me, call me at home.

Its been a long time...

Wow-so it has been awhile since I blogged! I won't try to write everything that has happened since my last post but some of the highlights are...
I turned 27 and Josh gave me the best birthday ever! He took me shopping and then surpised me by renting out the wildlife museum's aquarium room for a private dinner for two catered by my favorite restaurant-Oceans Zen. So we were eating watching sharks and fish and other stuff swim by. I will upload pictures sometime. It was amazing!
We went to Jeff City for Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, we drove to Kirksville with one of my bestest girlfriends, Leslie, to attend our friend from high school's wedding. Dawn was a beautiful bride and it was fun to see her. We are going to have to have a girls night out sometime soon! Of course it will be in Jeff City since it is the most central spot for us.
Jayden and Jacob are so fun. Jayden told me that I needed to be "bidient" to him. Of course, I corrected him on that. He was trying to decide what to be for Halloween today and he told me that he wants to be a fireplace or juice box. Umm, I am not sure how to make those happen for him! We will have to come up with another idea. One last Jayden story. We told him that he could drive a car when he is 16. Apparently now 16 is the magic age for everything. "When I am 16, I can pour milk." Today he told me that he IS 16. I am not sure which he wanted to do-pour milk or drive the car. I am think he wants to drive the car! And we still aren't potty trained. I refuse to talk to him about it.
Jacob is growing so fast-he started eating rice cereal because he already weighs 17 pounds!!! He is rolling over and sitting up and is still very much a Momma's boy but he does love to play pattycake and listen to Daddy sing (I am not sure why!).
Signing off-I will try to be better about posting more frequently!

All hail to the little prince on his throne!

We got Jacob a new seat for infants today.

The potty train has derailed!

Grrr! Jayden had completely regressed in his potty training efforts in the past couple of weeks! But today, I feel that things are finally looking up. Although he has had a couple of accidents today, he has told us at least three times when he needed to go. He just yelled out from his bed "Oh no! I have to poo-poo! I need to go poo-poo!' And he made it-no accident! I am so happy!

Side note: Jayden told me "I hate you" today. Well, he was saying to either Jacob or Mommy, I am not sure which. Where do they learn this stuff? I know that he has no idea what it means. In fact, he was "trying out" the phrase by whispering it first. I told him that those are mean words that will hurt a person's feelings so he should not say that to anyone. I also told him that if I hear him saying that, then he will get yucky sauce (vinegar) on his tongue as a punishment. I knew that the day would come when he would say that but I didn't think it would be so soon. They pick up things so easily-from me ( I had to stop saying "crap", well I am trying to any way!), friends at church, and tv.

Jacob is getting so big. He is smiling and cooing and even giggling some. He is still a mama's boy and I love it! He is so sweet but has a temper.

We have a very busy week ahead. Should be fun but hectic. I sortof like being on the go!

Every morning when I wake Jayden up, we lay in bed and talk about what we have to do that day. This morning I told him that we need to pack to go to MeeMaw and Pop's house tomorrow. That prompted a conversation about what we like to do at MeeMaw and Pop's house. We talked about the tractor, about MeeMaw's new car, his new blue car seat that he is very excited about, toys, and making Pop's bed (I don't know what that is about.)
Then Jayden sat up in bed and said "I like Pop. I like his beard."
Me: "Yes Jayden, Pop has a nice white beard."
Jayden: "I want a beard."
Me: "Well, when you are older you can have one."
Jayden: "Pop is old."

Sorry Pop!

Jacob is the winner!

For those who thought that I couldn't possibly make a bigger baby than Jayden, you were wrong!
Jacob had his two month checkup last Thursday. He weighs 14 pounds, 10 ounces at 10 weeks old. So I decided to check Jayden's baby book and see what he weighed at two months. When Jayden was 11 weeks old, he weighed 14 pounds, 5 ounces.
So, we have a new winner in the chubbiest Tarbet baby contest!!!

4th of July

We had a wonderful holiday, just hanging out as a family. We grilled burgers for lunch and steaks for dinner. We also made homemade ice cream and fried strawberries.
We finally replaced our outdoor furniture. Ours was damaged by ice and the insurance company gave us money to replace it (along with fixing the water damaged caused by a leak this winter). We found a great seet that we loved and it was on sale. Even better, it was an additional 30% of the clearance price!
Jayden loved the fireworks and Josh worked on teaching him the pledge of allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the...What else?"
When he was playing outside on his slide, Josh heard him say "Oh my gosh! Holy cow!" THe rest of the day, the phrase was shortened to "Oh my cow!" He cracks me up!
We put him down for a late nap and let him stay up late shooting off fireworks and watching our neighborhood go NUTS with fireworks. There was a huge one that went off on the next street over. Josh told Jayden "That was a hundred dollars right there!" After that, everytime a firework went off, Jayden exclaimed "it's a thousand dollars!!!"
It got loud and crazy in our neighborhood around 10:00 so Jacob and I went inside and watched from my bed.

As I am writing this, I am sitting next to Jayden, the play dough man. He is singing "Do Lord" and saying "Don't cut me. That makes me sad." Jacob is taking a litle nap and has a doctors appointment today. He is going to get shots. In the words of Jayden "That makes me sad."

I love having a two-year old...

most of the time.
Jayden makes me laugh so much. So here are some stories about our little man.
We are potty training (which some days are beter than). When he has an accident he has to stand in the corner for two minutes with his nose on the wall. He knows better than to go in his pants, that is why he is punished. Here is a picture of Jayden in time out.

Another potty training story, MeMaw and Pop were visiting and helping Jayden in the bathroom. He said "my pants are wet." Pop said "No, I don't think they are." Jayden got stern and pointed his finger and said "They Are WET!"

We went to JeffCity and Shelbina for Gpa Tines estate sale and went to visit Grandpa in the Villa. Jayden got to ride on Pop's new tractor. It is a John Deer. For a little while, Jayden insisted that it was a a John Brown tractor. Now he is obsessed with John Deere and anything that is green and yellow must be a John Deere.

It has been interesting to see how he is taking on more and more traits of a first born child. He is so particular about keeping things on a schedule. I just wish he was a little more picky about his toys being picked up.

I am strongly considering putting him in preschool in the fall. He seems a little bored at home and is such a social kid. We are taking a gymnastics class this summer. I will keep you posted about what we decide.

Jacob is growing so fast-we make chubby babies at our house! He has started sleeping better at night-another 5 hour stretch last night! Yea for Mommy!!

stuff-I will add more later!

We survived a week without Josh. His parents came down to help me manage the boys and I think that is the only reason I did not go insane! For Father's Day, I painted and decorated Josh's office. Friday, I picked him up at the airport and we drove to Jeff City. Then on Saturday, we drove up to Shelbina/Shelbyville for Gpa Tine's estate sale. It went well and the house sold. Joyce was so glad to get the day over. It was hot, hot, hot!
Today was a crazy day getting the boys back on a schedule. We are getting there though.

Dr. Jayden

So, today, Jayden became Dr. Jayden.
Jacob was fussy all morning, so I gave him some gas drops. A couple hours later, I went to the bathroom and I heard Jacob start crying very hard and coughing. I ran out to find Jayden standing over his baby brother with the bottle of Mylocon drops. "What are you doing?!!" "I giving him medicine." I snatched the bottle out of his hands to find that it was half empty. "How much did you give him?" I demanded. "I gave him many." he replied.
I rush downstairs and called poison control. They reassured me that everything would be ok and that Mylocon drops are non-toxic and that there was no harm done.
I really think that he was trying to help. When Jacob had cried earlier, I had given him medicine so when he started crying again, he gave him medicine.
We had to have a talk about not giving baby Jacob medicine again. Only Mommy or Daddy can do that.

Josh is 30!

We celebrated Josh's 30th birthday this weekend. I arranged a party for him and about 40 people came, including Josh's parents. Josh had been dying to get an ipod but I convinced him that everyone thought it was a big joke to tease him about being the last person to get one-even his parents each have one! John and Joyce gave Josh his gift, which was a framed picture of the two of them. Then they gave him his real gift-an ipod. As you can see from the picture, Josh is going to have to fight Jayden to get to use it! Maybe Jayden needs one now!
Jacob is growing so fast! He will be one month old this week and I can't believe how fast time flies, especially when you are sleep deprived! We gave him a bottle for the first time yesterday and he did well but was still hungry after eating so I still had to feed him!
I came down with a cold on Saturday and stayed home all day yesterday resting and trying to get over it without taking medication. I finally gave in a took a child's dose of a childrens cold medication last night and it helped. Hopefully Jacob and Jayden will not get sick. I think that I have already given my bug to Josh.

Our weekend

We had a great weekend. Oma Lisa came down for a visit and Jayden was so excited to see her. And Jacob got to meet his 'omi". We had a nice visit-it was great to spend time with her. We are planning to go up to St. Louis in June.

Yesterday was church and of course mother's day. We went out to eat and then Josh let me lay in bed and watch a movie with Patrick Dempsey in it! That is a good husband. We also went to a graduation party at park and Jayden had a great time playing the dirt and going down the slide. He tripped on the curb at our house and got his first skinned knee. No bandaid though-we are terrified of them.

We are gearing up for Josh's 30th birthday party this weekend! He really wants me to tell him what he is getting for his birthday but I am keeping it a secret. I did give him one present-lawn service for the summer so that he will have more free time with the kids.

here is a picture of Oma Lisa and the boys and Jayden and his booboo.

Another crazy day...

We had another crazy day today. Jayden, Jacob and I are working to find our routine. We took a walk today-it is hard to push a stoller with a baby and toddler in it up a hill! Jayden is such a good big brother and is very patient with Jacob and I as we are figuring things out. I am so proud of him.

We had some scary news yesterday. My Aunt Diana was in a car accident yesterday and was air lifted to a hopital. Initially, we did not have much information and thought that she was going to be rushed into surgery. But she is a fighter! A little internal bleeding and a crushed pelvis, which will be a challenge to heal from. If you are reading this, please keep her in your prayers.

Happy Early Mothers Day to me!

Josh got me a laptop! I am so excited! I might actually be better about blogging and checking my email now since I won't have to go up to my office.
Yesterday was my first day with both boys on my own. Things went great. Today is a different story. Jayden is a pill and Jacob is gasy. Lovely! Jacob goes to the Dr. today for his two week check up. I am interested to see how much weight he has gained.
I am operating on about 6 hours total sleep in the past 48 hours. Yikes!!! I am hoping to get a good nap in this afternoon and do some catching up this weekend during nap time!

THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to everyone who has been praying for our family over the past few weeks. Daddy's struggle with cancer ended March 18, 2007 at 2:15 am. The following week was a blur. Dad's funeral service was perfect: non-traditional in that his prayer buddies delivered a tribute to Dad that gave a strong presentation of his amazing faith in God. Jennilee also spoke and did an amazing job. I knew better than to get up in front of a huge crowd and try not to cry!
Burial was in ElDorado KS. Dad's brother, Randy, arranged for a "missing man" airplane flyover as tribute to Dad. It was incredibly touching.
Anyway, thank you for all of your support and prayers.

Jerry-Dad update

For those of you who know Dad, you should know that he is in his last days. After battling cancer for 10 years, we are drawing near to him finally being pain free. Obviously, this completely stinks for us but he is ready. I am at home today but am heading back to St. Louis tomorrow. Jayden is going to MeeMaw and Pop's and Josh has training for his new job in Kansas City this week.
I think that the hardest thing of all was when Jayden said good bye to his PeePaw Jerry. He doesn't know that it was the last time he would see PeePaw. He kissed him and said "Bye-bye my PeePaw Jerry. Love you." My heart breaks for him-PeePaw Jerry and Jayden are very special buddies.
I am so thankful that my Dad knows Christ and for all of the things that he has taught Jennilee and me. We are who we are because of his teaching.
I so admire him because he is so strong. Mom dying took so much out of him but he never neglected his girls-he held us extra close and finished raising us. I don't think that we could ever be ready to say good bye but here we are.
Please pray for all of us and especially for my little baby Jacob who is still growing inside me. I worry that the stress will hurt him but I know God has this covered.

Baby Mine

Jennilee made this for me because I didn't think that I had many pictures of me with Jayden. This is Jayden from labor and delivery until about Christmas of this year. Time sure flies!

Pregnancy

This is what pregnancy made me do today:
I am hungry. I need a snack. I go downstairs and eat two brownies (they were actually pretty small.), a piece of chocolate cake, a sugar cookie, and two dove chocolates. All of which I topped off with a small salad. I have no explaination other than pregnancy.

PePaw Jerry and Jayden are Friends

Jennilee made this little movie about Jayden and PePaw Jerry

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

I forgot to mention...

Earlier this month, the contract on our house in Joplin fell though. And since then, Missouri has been a weather nightmare. Please pray that we find a buyer soon! (like this weekend) We would rather not take the buyout from Josh's work but if we have to that is what we will do.
It has been very, very stressful for Josh and I.

Update Update Update!

Hello everyone! We have survived the major ice storm without any harm. No house damamge, no damaged trees, and we have had power! Many in our area have been without power for about 11 days now. Now the cleanup begins.
Some stuff going on with us:
Jayden got to hold the sucker sack in Sunday School. It doesn't seem like a big deal but it was something we talked about for a week. His teacher told me that he made note of who did not say "thank you."
His girlfriend was in the area so we got together and had a great time. Jayden would let her play with the tools but she could hold them until he was ready for them. I wonder where he has seen that before!!!
Josh has officially turned our child into a David Crowder Band fan. Most kids want a lullaby or sweet song before bed but our son wants to sing "Crowder songs!"
So far, we are staying healthy after the bought with the stomach flu. Jopefully we can keep this trend going!
Things with the baby are going well. The Dr. told me that this baby is big but I am within one centimenter of the size I was with Jayden at this point. I also gained 8 pounds in one month! Opps! Darn that holiday baking and the four batches of puppy chow that I made and mainly ate by myself!

Happy New Year!!!!!

Today is the start of a brand new year and I am resolving to be better about communicating with friends and family on a regular basis! I have very low expectations for myself.
Today is our 7th wedding anniversary. I can't believe that it has already been 7 years. We celebrated by renting movies (we haven't done this in about 4 months) and cleaning the office! Actually our gift to each other is the annual Swarovski crystal ornament and new bedrrom furniture.
Jayden had a wonderful Christmas. He even made up a song yesterday: "Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree. Let's open up more presents!" I guess next year we will need to work on teaching him about the real meaning of Christmas.
We also found out shortly before Christmas that we are going to have another boy. We are very excited. Jayden is going to move into his new big boy room, hopefully by February 1.
Josh is planning to take some time off in February to help his parents clean out his grandpa's workshop. We are also going to work on several projects around the house. We have so much on our list to try to get done before this new baby comes because we know we won't get around to doing much after his arrival. Josh looked at his "honey-do list" and cringed today!
I am going to head downstairs now and watch a movie with the Mr!
